The first summit meeting of all Central Asia
The world press neglected the news that leaders of five Central Asian countries met in Kazakhstan April 28th. Officially it was to discuss means how to revive the drying Aral Sea. The Western media only chide that there were no tangible results. But everyone knows that it is too late to revive the Aral Sea. What is important is that five leaders of the region met for the first time probably since mid 1990s. It is too naive to believe that the issue of water shortage can eventually unite five countries, but the history of the EU started from ECSC, a pact on steel and coal. Akio KAWATO
